Animal Adoption
During Term 2 the students of Model 2B investigated how they could be "Friends of the Sea". They also studied the term's character value "Compassion". The children studied the role of the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) and decided that they would raise money to adopt a penguin. The children were extra busy making beaded bracelets and a grandparent kindly donated Kowhai seedlings and string dogs that could be sold. The students were able to fundraise $90 for the WWF. This allowed them to symbolically adopt not only an Adelie Penguin but also a Giant Panda.
Last week a parcel arrived in Model 2B with two adoption certificates, a soft toy penguin, information sheets, WWF stickers and a Maui dolphin CD. The children were extremely excited by their achievement.
A special thanks to Ross Walker and all of the children and parents that helped Model 2B with their compassion project.
