10 November 2011 - Term 4, Week 3
Mathematics
Our Board of Trustees recently received a report on mathematics at George Street Normal School. This report summarised programme delivery, teacher feedback and children’s attitudes with regard to mathematics achievement results with regard to understanding of addition and subtraction strategies.
Achievement was similar to the results collected in 2009 and on the whole are pleasing with most children likely to meet or exceed the mathematics National Standard this year. However we are always looking to lift achievement and in the next year we will be continuing to investigate ways that we can enhance our programme, particularly with regard to the achievement of children who will potentially be working below National Standards in Years 4 and 6. Particular focus areas include focusing on mathematics in real life contexts and how we feed back to children their successes and next learning steps.
We value your support in helping to reinforce what children are learning at school, in the home and wider community context. A good website which clearly and sequentially outlines ideas being covered, with supporting activities, is mathzlinks.wikispaces.com. Feel free to get more guidance from your child’s teacher and by looking at the next learning step, which will be identified in the upcoming End of Year Report.
The full mathematics report is available to view in the school office.
