GSNS update Interviews and Covid level 2

George Street Normal at Covid level 2

As of 12 noon today until midnight Friday, George Street Normal will be operating under Covid level 2, as per Ministry requirements.
Level 2 is about reducing the risk of community transmission by minimising the risk that someone gets infected in the first place, and ensuring we can identify and contact anyone if someone is infected.

What does this mean for George Street Normal School?

Parent Teacher Leaning Interviews

Parent teacher interviews will go ahead with the following considerations:

Good hygiene practices will be important:

  • Use hand santiser, which will be available at doorways and in classrooms
  • Do not attend if you are feeling unwell in any way
  • Under Level 2 masks are encouraged but not required

Social Distancing

  • We encourage you to attend on time, but not too early to minimize social contact.
  • Chairs available in waiting areas will be placed 2m apart.
  • Please maintain a 2m distance from others when entering and exiting the building.
  • While interviews are timetabled for 15 minutes, we will encourage our teachers to conclude these slightly ahead of time to reduce social contact.
  • In the interview seating will be set out to enable 1m social distancing.
  • To aid social distancing, the Junior class interviews will be held in your child's class not in Te Puna Ako as previously advertised.

Contact Tracing

  • When entering school grounds please use the NZ Covid tracing app (if possible), alternatively ensure that your class teacher has recorded your presence.

Room 4 & 5 Assembly, scheduled for this Friday, is postponed.

What about other Events and Activities?

At present we are making decisions only about what is scheduled to happen over the next three days. There may well be some updates and changes should Covid alert levels stay above level 1 beyond Friday 14th.

  • Georgies is still operating, following the same procedures as school.  This includes recording contact details for anyone who comes onto school grounds to drop off/pick up their child
  • Clubs are still meeting and sports teams are still practising
  • Music tuition is continuing

What are we doing at school?

  • Parents and visitors entering the school grounds are strongly encouraged to use the NZ Covid app. The QR code is on all our entrances and doorways
  • Teachers are reminding children of what good hygiene practice means:
    • washing hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, rinsing thoroughly and drying hands for 20 seconds
    • coughing or sneezing into your elbow
    • respecting other people's 'bubble'
  • If children come to school and present as unwell, we will need to send them home
  • Continuing to ensure that all hard surfaces are regularly cleaned

Things Parents can do to help are:

  • Discuss good hygiene practices at home
  • If your child is unwell keep them at home
  • If your child wears a mask, ensure they know of safe practices associated with this
  • Consider how you are supporting contact tracing whenever you come onto school grounds.  If you can avoid doing so, this would be appreciated.

Going forward

Should this situation continue we will:

  • Reintroduce contact tracing procedures at entrances before and after school
  • Have children on the main side lined up on the courts ready for pick up at the end of the day
  • Some planned events that involve the wider community may be postponed or cancelled
  • Continue to keep you informed by way of email, skoolbag and our website
