We are proud of the multicultural nature of our school and have a well-integrated ELL (English Language Learner) programme. The programme is designed to support and scaffold learning to cater for all students including:
ELL trained Teacher Assistants who work with small groups of children
Individual progress tracking for ELLs
Individual goals/next steps are reported to parents on the child's school report
A designated teacher has responsibility for overseeing the ELL programme
Some of our teachers have completed further ESOL study
Professional development, strong collegial support and comprehensive resources for all staff involved
Cluster meetings between schools to share strengths and tools
Nessie, a web-based literacy tool available to our children both in school and in their home
New children are given both cultural and logistical orientation
Families are invited to share in their children's learning and meet socially with others
Students receive appropriate levels of support with the English language in ESOL classes.
Learning in ESOL/withdrawal classes supports learning in mainstream classes.
