Otago Tennis Tournament

The annual Otago Primary and Intermediate Schools Championships is an opportunity for all school students in Otago to compete even if they do not belong to a tennis club. This is a qualifying event for the Southern Primary and Intermediate Schools Championships.
Date: Friday 1st November 2024
Venue: Stevenson Tennis Centre at Logan Park
Reporting Time: 8:20am (approximate finish time is 3pm subject to the length of matches) (In case of wet weather, will be shifted to the Edgar Centre)
Please note that parents would have to take their child to this event and would be responsible for them throughout.
There are two grades:
A Grade – Year 8 and under (Open)
B Grade – Year 6 and under (this grade plays with ‘green dot’ low compression balls)
The top 3 boys and girls in A grade and the top 2 in B grade will gain direct qualification to the Southern Primary and Intermediate Schools Championships. Year 6 players may choose to play the OPEN grade but should they not qualify for the Southern OPEN Championships they cannot be selected for the Year 6 and under competition. Southern Primary and Intermediate Schools Championships. This will take place on Friday 8th November 2024 at The Edgar Centre in Dunedin. The top 5 Boys and Girls in A grade and the top 3 in B grade from this tournament will then qualify for the South Island Schools Final (to be held 27-28 November in Timaru)
$25 entry fee per player
If players don't already have one, a sports top will be provided from the school office for the Otago Tennis competition.
Payments are to be paid into the school bank account (02-0912-0320963-001) with a reference of OtagoTennis and your child's name.
Match Format
A Grade – 2 tie-break sets up to 6, with 3rd set match tie-break to 10
B Grade – 2 sets up to 4 (tie-break at 4-all), with 3rd set tie-break to 7
All players will play at least 2 matches. Tennis Otago reserve the right to change the format subject to the number of entries.
