Hockey Term 2/3 2024 - registrations close Sunday 7th April at 6pm link to registration

Hockey for Term 2 and 3 is offered for Years 1-6 in 2024. Click here to register your child for Hockey

Start Date: Week 2 of Term 2 on the 8th of May.

Venue: All primary school Hockey will be played on Wednesday afternoons either at the McMillan Hockey Centre or Kings High School.

The competition runs for 14 weeks on a Wednesday, breaking for school holidays.

End date: Wednesday 21st of August.

Times will be dependent on team entry numbers, but we aim for 3.45pm-6pm.

Help with coaching and/or managing a team is highly appreciated and a necessity for us to enter teams.  Please indicate on the registration form if you would be willing to coach or manage a team this year.

Practices take place during school lunch times and announced in the daily notices at school.

Equipment: All players must have their own mouthguard, shin pads, stick and long socks.  If you would like to loan a hockey stick from the school, please indicate this on the registration form.

Cost: per player is $70.50 (we need a minimum of 7 players per team and this cost is based on 7 players per team)

Uniform: Sports uniforms are available at the school office to hire for the duration of the hockey competition ($20.00) or you can purchase a GSNS sports top for $30 and GSNS sports shorts (while we have them in stock) for $25.

Format:

6 A- side games played on 1⁄4 turf. The Junior Competition Handbook will be sent out with all the rules and relevant information shortly.

Train and Play Concept:

This means that each team must provide a team coach/manager/parent (as normal) and Otago Hockey will also assign an OHA trained coach who will come along and run some skills alongside the team

coach/manager/parent for the first 20 minutes and then facilitate a game for the next 20 minutes. The aim of this is to upskill our players and the teams coach/manager/ parent support so that our youngest players are establishing good habits from the get-go! We also acknowledge that many of the adults that volunteer to look after a team each season, are somewhat in the dark with what they could be doing with their team, and this is our way of being able to support these people too!

The Year 1& 2 Fun Sticks- Train and Play

The Year 3&4 Mini Sticks – Train and Play

The Year 5&6 Kiwi Sticks- Games with groups being offered 2 levels being development (those new to hockey/ building on confidence and skill development) and a competitive grade (those who may have played before and have a good basic understanding). They will play games on 1⁄4 turf.

Parents will need to take responsibility for transporting their child to and from the turf each week.
